The Aston Martin DBS

Upon its launch in 1969, the Aston Martin DBS was the pinnacle of elegance, speed and power. When introduced to the world, it was the fastest four-seat production car on the planet. Offering both inline-six and V-8 engines, it was one of the most coveted sports cars of its time. With just over 1000 units built, this is prestigious exclusivity at its finest. Reflecting this prestige, the iconic DBS was featured in two James Bond films; On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Diamonds are Forever.

Design and Manufacture

The Aston Martin DBS was designed by the highly-regarded British car designer William Towns. His focus was on angular shapes and creating four-door supercars –those that would go down in automobile history. He designed the car with more of a modern look and feel inmind, and that’s certainly reflected in this oldtimer’s look and feel. This car stands out in the Aston Martin catalogue for having a squared-off front grille, atypical for Aston at the time. However, this was very much the style of the cutting-edge car design circles at the time.

Aston Martin DBS and Watchmaking History

The new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera was launched in 2019. This history-making new edition also featured 50 examples of special-edition cars to celebrate TAG Heuer’s relationship with Aston Martin. These cars were finished in Monaco black paint with red accents, built to a luxurious fixed specification.

Each car comes with a matching limited-edition TAG Heuer watch called the DBS Edition Carrera Heuer 02.

This automatic watch has a hexagonal cut-out face that matches the grille of the DBS and an embossed calf leather strap mirroring the leather inside the car. The watch also has red detailing, matching the car. The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera TAG Heuer Edition is priced at £295,000.

Each of the 50 cars created for this joint venture was inspected personally by Aston Martin CEO, Andy Palmer.

At Atelier Jalaper, we are excited by this example of fine craftmanship and collaboration between the connected worlds of watchmaking and luxury cars.
