Watches and automobiles

As lovers of fine mechanical engineering know, watchmaking and automobiles have always been closely linked.

Ever since the first cars appeared on the scene, watchmakers have taken advantage of this by equipping watches with a tachymetric scale enabling drivers to measure the speed of a moving vehicle. Watchmaking and motor racing have a long history of sponsorship, shared technology and moving wheels. One example is the chronograph, a watch designed to time periods of time from a given moment, a watchmaking complication closely linked to the world of motor sport.

From the 1960s onwards, most racing drivers wore chronographs, and legends such as Michael Schumacher and Michael Andretti helped to popularise wristwatches by making them an essential part of their careers.

Even today, although watches are no longer essential in terms of measuring performance, the partnerships between the watchmaking world and the automotive world still have a bright future ahead of them, continuing in the quest for a perfect combination of mechanical power and elegance.

OUR VISION

At Atelier Jalaper, we have decided to take the relationship between watches and cars a step further by making watch dials from iconic car parts.

Discover our limited-edition collection of automatic watches, produced from authentic automobile parts. Our work is the fruit of a shared passion for legendary cars and exceptional watchmaking.

Immerse yourself in automotive heritage with this men's watch featuring a dial cut from an authentic Aston Martin DB5 bonnet. Every detail is meticulously designed to capture the essence of this automotive icon, a masterpiece of elegance and performance, and the patina on the dial reflects the timelessness of this legendary car.

In essence, our concept does not allow us to produce our watches on a large scale. We are limited by the materials we use and each watch in this range is a limited edition of 600.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Choose from the various models in our collection of automatic automobile watches, available in limited editions. Let yourself be seduced by the black PVD finish on the case of the AJ001-B model or the day-date display on the dial of the AJ002-S watch.

The dial, housed in a robust stainless steel case with a satin/brushed finish, is a tribute to the car's dashboard and distinctive radiator grille. As well as being taken from an authentic piece of automotive bonnet, its design celebrates the close link between the watch and the car it honours.

Powered by a Miyota 8215 automatic movement whose technology works in harmony with car mechanics, the models in the DB5 collection combine watchmaking tradition with mechanical innovation. Reliable and equipped with a stop-second device, this automatic movement has a 42-hour power reserve. The stainless steel case has a sapphire crystal caseback, allowing you to admire the full complexity of the automatic movement at work. The 316L steel case ensures that the watch is water-resistant to 3ATM.
